How do E-Scooters Work?

Electric scooters are a good way to get around, and they are a fun mode of transport when used safely and legally. While they look like simple pieces of equipment from a first glance, there is a lot more than meets the eyes. You will have to scratch beneath the surface to know how to operate these gadgets to their maximum potential. In this guide, we will discuss how various parts work, including the battery and motor.

But how do electric scooters work? E-scooters need a battery to run. You need to make sure the battery is charged and in good working order before every ride. To charge the battery, you need to plug in the charger to the charging port on your scooter and plug it into a power socket.

Now for the scientific part, the battery is comprised of three sections – the anode (negative symbol), the cathode (denoted by a positive symbol), and the electrolyte which exists between the pair. After the discharge process, anode oxidation occurs, which allows lithium atoms to be discharged into the valence board. Usually, a separator is used to prevent short circuits from taking place.

How do electric scooter motors work?

The electric scooter motor determines your top speed, acceleration, hill climb ability, and overall performance. Most electric scooters have a motor power rating given in units of watts. For the scooters that we sell here at Skootz, you will find this information on the product page under specification. This is the measure of power equivalent to energy per second. There are two types of motors used in e-scooters– brushless direct current (DC) or brushed DC motors. The brushless motor is perhaps the most effective because they can pick up speed quickly.

Do electric scooters work in the rain?

Well, this is perhaps one of the most common FAQs that pop up. Riders are often worried about the rainwater damaging their e-scooter. In short, electric scooters do work in the rain, but remember, they are water resistant and not waterproof. So, e-scooters can withstand light rain, however, it is not advised to ride them in heavy rain or flooded areas. This is, in part, because adverse weather conditions can damage the scooter’s electrical system.

There are, however, many electric scooters that are water resistant, and will provide a reliable performance. At Skootz, we are well stocked with many different types of e-scooters, and if you are concerned about any features, you can speak to one of our reliable members of staff. We can be contacted either by phone or email, and we have two stores – one in Glasgow and the other in Edinburgh – so you can pop into our shop if you require further assistance.
